I wanted to write a Veteran's Day post, so I searched Google images for American Soldiers. Even with my safe search turned on, I was sickened by the images. The worst pictures were not those of wounded or dead soldiers but those of captured US soldiers being tortured or executed.
After a brief exposure to the disturbing images, I though about not writing anything.
I was unnerved and sick at heart from all the evil.
Stories of such horror have been on the news lately. Radical groups beheading and killing others because of their religious beliefs. It's not just our soldiers who are under attack.
It's a global spiritual war.
Christians today, who take up their cross, are all veterans!
We are serving during war time. We are on the front lines of battle
not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
This evening, I had to comfort myself with these verses:
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
...The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence. I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies. 2 Samuel 22:2-4
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation. Psalm 91
During the end time the Bible says that wickedness and evil will run rampant all over the world.
We are living in an evil time, but Jesus has overcome the world!
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John 16:33
Verses from Psalm 37
Fret not thyself because of evildoers...
for they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.
...For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth....
...For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be...
...For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the Lord upholdeth the righteous...
...But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the Lord shall be as the fat of lambs...into smoke shall they consume away...
...the seed of the wicked shall be cut off...
...when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it....
...I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree....
but the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off.
Tonight, I was also reminded of a veteran named Joshua.
Read about the victory at Joshua 1-6!
This wasn't the Veteran's Day post that I originally had in mind, but it's what came to me.
Lord, protect our soldiers. Give Your angels charge over them to keep them in all their ways. Let no weapon formed against them prosper. Lord, thank You for the freedoms that we still have in America. Let us have the heart to pray for our enemies. Thank You for your mercy and blessings. Help all Christians to see the state that our world is in. Lord, forgive us as a nation for being so complacent and tolerant . Please withhold not Your mercy from us. Pour out Your spirit and revive us. Lord, let us be watching for You. Let us see that the time is drawing nearer. Shelter us from evil. Hold us safely in Your hands. In Jesus' name, Amen.
