Additions to My Shabby Chic Room

I'd like to share a few pictures of the new items I've added to my shabby room.

A  friend gave me this lovely Ice Cream Parlor Table Set.
I painted it light pink to make it look Shabby Chic.

I found this charming musical teapot at a thrift store called, The King's Cleft in Dublin, Georgia.  I have heard the tune before, but I can figure out what song it is.

I also found this rose candle holder at The King's Cleft.

This basket and purse stand came from a Goodwill store.

It's fun to keep adding stuff to the room.

Blueberry Crumb Bars

First I started with fresh picked blueberries!

For this recipe you will need:

1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup shortening
1 egg
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 pinch of ground cinnamon

4 cups of fresh blueberries
1/2 cup sugar
3 teaspoons cornstarch
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Grease a 9x13 inch pan.
In a medium bowl, stir together 1 cup sugar, 3 cups flour, and baking powder.  Mix in salt and cinnamon, if desired.  Use a fork or pastry cutter to blend in the shortening and egg.  Dough will be crumbly.  Pat half of the dough into the prepared pan.
In another bowl, stir together 1/2 cup sugar and 3 tsp. of cornstarch.  Gently mix in the blueberries.  Sprinkle the blueberry evenly over the crust.  Crumble remaining dough over the berry layer.
Bake in a preheated oven for 45 minutes or until top is slightly brown.  Cool completely before cutting into squares.
ENJOY!

Really Forgiven

Have you ever been in despair over sins of the past?
Although scripture tells us that God remembers them no more, we tend to think back on past sins and failures. When we do this, it opens us up to attacks from the devil. We may feel hopeless, disheartened, discouraged, desperate, and distressed. I am sure the the devil loves for us to anguish unnecessarily.

I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins. Isaiah 43:25

But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound Romans 5:20

Why do we anguish over past sin?
Perhaps we can not fully comprehend God's great love, or perhaps we have little faith.

As far as myself, I feel like there are times the devil tries to make me feel insignificant or inconsequential. Why would God even want to forgive and have a relationship with me. At times, we may even feel unworthy because of our sin. I know that I have looked back and thought, "How could I have done that?" However, God's love is immeasurable.

For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. Hebrews 8:12
God's work is perfect. When He forgives, sins are forgiven, removed, cast away, and not called to his mind anymore. However, our works are so imperfect, we are not fully capable of realizing God's ability. We doubt if we were "really" forgiven. We may ponder if we prayed hard enough, or if we asked in the correct way . We may wonder if God heard us. Satan loves to tell us that we weren't really forgiven. When we have these thoughts, we need to change our thinking!

Thinking and worrying over past sin is Satan's cunning way of stealing our joy. We need to turn our thought to what is "true", not believing lies of the devil.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8

We need to ask God to forgive us for not fully trusting Him.

I like Mark 9:24 Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

God is a 100% God. He does a complete work!

As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

With so many attacks from Satan in this sinful world, it can be easy, at times, to loose faith and have doubt. We gain strength, faith, and trust from God's word. Time and time again, we read how God forgives us. His hand is continuously stretched out to us! Nothing can separate us from His love!
He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea. Micah 7:19

If our earthly parents love us then we probably wouldn't need to ask them over and over to forgive us, so how much more is God willing and able to forgive us our every sin. He has a perfect love that even the most loving parent can't possess. His forgiveness is from that perfect love.

And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. Luke 15:20

So many issues we place on the alter before God. We give them to God, yet we pick them back up again. Oh how imperfect and human we are! We ask for forgiveness, but mindlessly tote the baggage of our sin. We ask for healing, but we panic with doubt and fears. I am so guilty of that one myself!
We ask for provisions, but we jump ahead of God's timing. Does the Bible tell us to pray and worry? No! It tells us to pray and believe.
Is it impossible for us to trust God completely? We can say that we trust God. It is so easy to say those words, but they are just that, words.

Faith without works is dead! James 2:26

Our work is to believe and do what scripture tells us to do.
My prayer is this:

Dear Lord,
Thank You for my life, loving me, forgiving me, and all Your daily blessings. Take from me any unbelief. Have mercy and help me. Increase my faith. Lord, I want to trust You completely. Help me to have a perfect peace that comes from trusting in You. Lord, when I doubt, increase my faith. When I am scared, comfort me. When I struggle to place all my faith in You, strengthen me. I want to place You above all my doubts and fears. Fill me with your Spirit. Teach me Your ways, Lord. Guard my mind from attacks of the enemy. Help me to be open tho the blessings You desire to give me. Help me to accept, in faith, all the promises You have given me. Help me each day to live expecting blessings from every situation that arises.
Help me to praise you in all times. Let me know, even without seeing, that You are working out all things for my good. Lord, give me the joy of seeing Your wonderfulness each day. I delight in You!
In Jesus' name, Amen.

Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,Philippians 3:13

O How Sweet The Sound

As I was writing today's entry for "Favorite Quotes/Verses" in My Day Book, I wrote the lyrics to an old hymn that I use to sing in the choir as a young girl.

I can make it, through the valley, over mountains, through the storm. Jesus keeps me so completely I can make it all the way home.
~ I Can Make It- an old church hymn

Oh, how sweet the sound! I can still hear this beautiful melody and the great alto singers coming in during the harmony.

I am so blessed to have been raised in church!  These old songs come up out of nowhere! Well, not really "nowhere". I am so amazed that these songs live inside my heart, and sometimes they must feel like being sung again. If I tried to remember them all, I could not.  I guess this song "came out" because of a post I read over at Homespun Devotions, and because a mild storm just came through.

Scripture does this also.  When I need it, it comes flooding back to my mind.  Verse after verse, God has comforted me with His word several times.

Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance.
In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted. For thou art the glory of their strength Psalm 89: 15-17

This is why it is important to instill God's word and hymns of worship into our children.  In their joy and trials, what will they hear?  Will it be songs of praise and adoration? Will it be scriptures of deliverance, strength, praise, and comfort? I surly hope so!

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Colossians 3:16

Tour of the Chicken Barn on Clean-Up Day

Here is our chicken barn! We still have to bury a little more wire around the perimeter so nothing can dig under, plant a few more rose bushes and flowers around it, and make a pretty wreath for the front wall.  We use the wheelbarrow, so I may put a potted plant in it to pretty it up a bit.  I still plan on making a dust bath for the yard area soon.  I hope to get that project done this week!

 Okay, let's get cleaning!
Here are my two "poop scooper" tools.

In order to maintain a clean environment, I scoop about 3 times a week.

I also use them to scrape and catch the poop on the ladder.

Looks like I might have a broody hen.  I hope so!

Clean nesting boxes are essential for healthy chickens and eggs!
Over at Fresh Eggs Daily ,  I found Homemade Orange Peel White Vinegar Coop Cleaner.  I like using it to freshen up their coop area. I get many helpful ideas from her blog and from The Chicken Chick!

Isn't she such a sweetheart for showing us her babies?

Now, this looks like a clean coop area!  I plan on making a "poop hammock" that will be placed under the roosting bar. This will make cleaning in this area much simpler.  It will also be a great way to collect the poo for fertilizer.

A good raking finishes the job.

Don't they look appreciative ?

I like to keep their water clean by hanging it a few inches off of the ground. I often add Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar to the water for its wide array of health benefits.

Well, that clean for another day!

Remember sweet little Sassafras?

Well as it turns out, she is a hen!

I'm glad because I was wanting more good egg-layers. I have her separated from the other chicks until she is big enough to fight back.  Chicken do tend to pick on newcomers.  Sassafras does mingle with the other chickens along the outside their chicken yard.  I think this will help them get use to her.

Here's an extra for today!
Since an alligator has taken up residence in our pond, I am glad to see that the ducks are still thriving in this naturally wet area.

You'll notice that I only have two now.  Don't worry, the gator didn't get the other two.  I gave them to my best friend , and they are doing great in her pond. I hope we both got a drake and a hen.  You can't see it in this picture, but the duck on the right has a tail feather that looks like it is curling up.  I heard this was a way to distinguish it as a male.
