Faux Caramel Apples and Dreams of Fall

Although it has been extremely hot here in Georgia, we've had a small taste of Fall.  For the past couple of days, we have enjoyed lower temperatures and breezy days.
On top of that, the corn field across the road has been harvested, and our neighbor is burning a huge pile of tree limbs near the fence line today.
Ahhh, it smells like Fall.
Perhaps I am jumping the gun, but
I am itching for Fall now!
Yesterday, I whipped up a batch of faux caramel apples and began decorating.

I added red ribbon to the apples that
I placed on my old stove.

These apples will also look festive during Christmas.

I used straw ribbon on these.
Don't they look like ...
crisp air
falling leaves
crackling fires

~How to make faux caramel apples~

fake apples (this recipe will make 15-20 apples)

Mod Podge (Gloss) 8 oz.

2- 2oz.craft glue in a caramel color (Apple Barrel paint from Walmart)
wooden sticks or Popsicle sticks
waxed paper
small plastic bowl or cup

corn cob litter

Mix 8 oz. of Mod Podge and two 2 oz. bottles of caramel color paint together in a small bowl. Insert sticks into apples. Dip and roll apples around in the fake caramel mixture.  Let them drip for a moment then place them on wax paper.  Add corn cob litter as nuts.  Let dry for several hours. After the sides dry, turn them over to let the bottom dry.
Add ribbon.

Popcorn, coffee beans, and a mulled cider candle make my kitchen look and smell as if Fall is in the air.

Fall flowers in an old metal pail look abundantly beautiful!

Here's a glimpse of the forecast where I live.
Wow, this is a decent break in temperature for us!  It will probably be near 100 degrees again by the middle of next week.
If you comment, let me know where you live and what the weather feels like there.

Well, have a blessed day, Dear Readers.  I have to go out and feed the chickens now.

Blessed To Be A Homemaker

What a blessing it is to be a homemaker and a mother.
Many women have let feminist ideals rob them of their God-given purpose. All homemakers have probably heard other women say, "Well, I can't stay at home. I have to work." Many people don't like to admit that housework is indeed work. For me, however, it is a labor of love. Here is an example of how I spend my day sitting around "doing nothing".
Early this morning, I mowed the lawn. Most of it I mowed with the riding mower, but I had to use the push mower in several places.
Next, I cleaned the chicken barn and fed & watered the chickens.
After that, I started laundry. I love to hang my clothes out on the line. Our electrical bill hasn't scared us once this Summer. In fact, it has been surprisingly low.

In actuality, it pays to be a homemaker if you're thrifty.
I'm not running my gas out every day. Although I don't have small children anymore, I never had to pay expensive daycare.   It's sad that women have babies and give them to another to take care of for the majority of their life.  I love living counter-cultural !  I love that I had my children with me as they were growing up.  However, I did work as a laboratory technician off and on, but mainly on weekends.  It was never right for me, and I knew it wasn't in God's will for my life.  In fact, all "hell" broke out in our family life when I up and decided, without asking God or my husband, to go back to school and work.  I use the term "hell" literally because Satan tried all he could to destroy us.  I am happy to say that God protected me and my family through that difficult time.  We have a strong family now and my husband is now our spiritual leader.  Praise God!
So, why did I do it in the first place?  I am not sure.  Maybe it was a trail we had to go through that made us stronger.  Maybe I, like many women, thought I need to prove my worth by furthering my education and earning a big paycheck. All I know is,
it was the most miserable time in my life!

Looking back on the years of raising and homeschooling my children, there are many things I wish I could have done differently, but I did all that I knew to do at the time.  I am still extremely thankful for those precious moments.
Here is a sermon by Pastor Adrian Rogers.  If you have time, I would strongly suggest viewing this video.

I have written another post, A Great Work At Home.
that you may enjoy.

Young women today are being attacked by a feministic society.  What use to be common is now freakishly uncommon for women.
I was talking to a lady who just finished homeschooling her daughter.  We were talking about college or technical school admission requirements when she told me that her daughter just felt pressured into giving people an answer to their questions, "What are you going to do now?  Are you going to college?" She told me that her daughter enjoyed keeping children and wanted to someday get married, keep house, and raise her own children, but she felt like her own God-given desire would be looked down upon because it differed substantially from those of mainstream society.

This country is in a mess!  Ever since God created male and female, Satan has been trying to blur the distinction between the sexes. There is equality of male and female worth in the eyes of God, but they were created differently and with different roles!
Here is another great sermon from Pastor Adrian Rogers. He addresses issues about women being at home.

This will be my daughters last year of homeschooling.  She is interested in fashion and make-up.  She has mentioned taking classes at our local technical college for cosmetology.  I am praying about this.  She says that she is interested in working in this field until she gets married and has children.  I pray that she will hold strong to her beliefs about being an at-home mother and homeschooling her children if the Lord wills.  I will not cease to pray about this. If needed, she could base this type of work in her home around her own schedule.  I have found a course that she is excited about at the Visionary Daughters website.  It is Reclaiming Beauty a Study Course by Anna Sofia and Elizabeth Botkin.  I am thankful that my daughter agrees and understands the importance of mothers taking care of their own kids and their home. Her father and I are praying for her future.  If the Lord tarries and if it is in His will for her to become a wife and mother, we are praying for God's choice in everything.
Well, I have some laundry that needs to be taken in off the line and more that needs to be hung out.  I have some cleaning to do in the house.  Lea's studies need checking, and I have to prepare a delicious supper for my sweet family that God has bless me with.
Have a blessed day, Dear Readers!

My Daughter's Dressing Room

My latest project has been fixing up a dressing room for my daughter, Lea.
Bear in mind, this would not be possible without
 thrifty shopping!
This room was originally an extra bedroom. Since it joins my daughter's bedroom and is only accessible by going through her room, I decided to turn it into a dressing room.
We moved the old furniture out yesterday, painted the walls, and fixed it up.  Yes, I am tired!

Enjoy the pictures!

My mother gave Lea this old dresser.  I painted it black, and it is now her vanity.
I found this beautiful lamp at a thrift store while vacationing in Hilton Head.

I printed and framed Proverbs 31:25 NLT
I found a set of two of these frames at a
Goodwill in Hilton Head, SC. for $2.

Monday, after a doctor's appointment, I thought I would swing by a
thrift store on the way home
I found this futon for only $19.99!
It was in excellent condition, but I bought a new black cover
for it.
I would like
to find a round floor table or coffee table
to place in front of the futon.

The chair was given to me by a friend. I used the other chairs and table in my

I still need to find a small black table that will sit in front of this window.  Lea will use it
as her "nail station". She also
needs an area rug.

The vintage make up mirror was purchased a couple weeks ago at an
antique store.
I need to get a couple of storage bins for the
shelf in the corner so she can store some of her accessories.

This was an idea that my daughter found on Pinterest.  It is aquarium rocks inside of a large glass that we found at a Goodwill store.  It's great for holding make up brushes.

I have a few more prints to frame and hang on the wall to the left in this picture.
I also need to find
a small set of chest of drawers for extra clothes.
I may make a trip to the nearest Goodwill today.
I think I may have an addiction to thrift stores! Haha!
(I changed the curtains behind the futon by taking the valance out and pulling the 2 shear panels together.  New picture below.)

This chandelier was found in a booth at an antique mall for only $15!

I also printed and framed Proverbs 31:30.

Well, that's all until my next trip to a thrift store.
I never know what I'm going to find!

as of 08/13/14 7:40 pm

Yay, I got two more tables today!
They were given to me by a friend!

I'm going to add another glass and a
saucer to make this 3 tiered.

I still need an area rug.

Bible Study: 1 & 2 Timothy: Sound Doctrine

This is another Bible study I did using my Webster's 1828 Dictionary. As I read verses, I look up several words to get a broader meaning of each.

The first versesI studied (1 Timothy 6:3-6) have always been my "Homeschool Verses" or my Biblical stance for homeschooling. However, they can also be applied to various situations where others are void of the truth:

clubs or organizations
even church (if you're in the wrong one)
1 Timothy 6:3-6

If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;

wholesome- sound; contributing to the health of the mind; favorable to morals, religion, or prosperity

doctrine- learning knowledge, truths of the gospel
But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine.Titus 2:1

He is proud

proud- having excessive self-esteem, high or unreasonable conceit of one's own excellence, arrogant, & haughty

knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words,
doting- obsessed with
whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,

strife- exertion or contention for superiority. Who contended with God for superiority?....Lucifer. Struggle for victory, contention in anger or enmity
railings- insulting language, reproachful words
surmising- suspecting, imagining upon slight evidence. As evolutionist do!
Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds,

This video, Evolution vs. God, is about people knowing NOTHING with perverse and corrupt minds! Most have PhDs or are majoring in a branch of Science.

perverse- literally turned aside from right, disposed to be contrary, and stubborn

disputings- arguments, controversy .Do all things without murmurings and disputings Phil 2:14

Corrupt- defiled, polluted, impure, evil, disobedient, infected with error

and destitute of the truth,

destitute- not having
truth- Jesus Christ, fact, reality, purity from falsehood

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6

supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

Here are just a few recent news headlines where people are teaching otherwise and consenting not to wholesome words of our Lord Jesus Christ and to the doctrine which is according to godliness. Where proud people, knowing nothing, are doting about questions and strifes of words. Whereof, there is envy, strife, railings, and evil surmisings and perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds. They are destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness. From such, we need to withdraw ourselves and our families!

Wholesome??? I think not!

corrupt minds??? YES!

...from such withdraw thyself.

A Biblical command to homeschool or send your kids to a Christian school?
I would say...

I have no greater
than to hear that my children walk in truth.
3 John 1:4

A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher. Luke 6:40

Who is teaching your kids? Or better yet, what is being taught to your kids? Public school History is liberal, bias, and it isn't from a Christian viewpoint! All public school science is secular, sinful, and far from the truth. Liberal agenda is being taught. Morals are taught APART from Christ! Unethical ideas are being taught and are instructed to be accepted. Other religions are intended to be accepted with open arms, EXCEPT Christianity! Public schools are warping kids' minds about gender roles. Bad behavior is corrupting good morals. Young kids are exposed to sex, violence, drugs, alcohol, homosexuality, disrespect, and much more wickedness for the MAJORITY of their childhood. It's no wonder why the world is in the shape it is in today! I agree with one thing that people who are opposed to homeschooling say...public school prepare kids to live in "society", the so-called "real world".

Well, they can have it!

I rather my children be in the world but not of it!

Here are a few more verses I enjoyed studying using my 1828 Webster's Dictionary

and my King James Study Bible

1 Timothy 6:20-21

O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust,

trust- care, management, and belief

avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:

profane- irreverent to anything sacred, secular, polluted, not pure, unholy, obscene, heathenish, tending to bring reproach on Christianity

vain- empty, worthless, having no substance, no value, not important, fruitless, false, and deceitful

babblings- foolish talk

foolish- void of understanding, wicked, sinful, acting without regard to the divine law, one who follows his own inclinations
A fool hath said in his heart, there is no God. Ps 14:1

oppositions- contrary to the truth

Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.

erred- to wander from the right way, to stray, to do wrong through ignorance

faith- an entire confidence or trust in God, the promises of God or His truth and faithfulness
2 Timothy 1:13

Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

Hold- to retain within, to maintain, to cleave, to endure, adhere to, to keep in continuance or practice, and to defend

fast- firmly, close, strong

sound- perfect, founded in truth, valid, and correct

While studying this verse, I became so excited when I looked up the word "hold". We are instructed to closely hold, firmly defend, practice and cleave to God's word!

2 Timothy 2:15

Study to shew thyself approved unto God...(NOT MAN!my emphasis)

Study- to fix the mind closely upon a subject, to dwell upon in thought, to endeavor diligently.

When it comes to Bible study, I like these terms a lot better than just the word "study".

shew- to present or prove

approved- shown or proved to be worthy of approbation (favor)

2 Timothy 2:7
Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.

understanding- knowledge, exact comprehension, and skillfulness.

I know an elderly lady who only had a small about of schooling and she is one of the wisest people that I know. I love talking with her about the Lord. The Lord has given her understanding in all things but, He has given her exceptional understanding of His word.

2 Timothy 3:7

Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

knowledge- a clear and certain perception

This verse was proven in the Evolution vs. God video above.

2 Timothy 3:14-17

But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

continue- persevere, abide, endure, be steadfast
assured- made certain or confident, not doubting, bold

And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through

faith which is in Christ Jesus.

known- understood clearly, informed

able- sufficient power

wise- having the fear of God, power of discerning correctly, knowing what is true or false, skillful

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

inspiration- under divine influence or direction which leaves no room for doubt

profitable- useful and advantageous

doctrine- teaching, the truths of the Gospel

reproof- showing fault

instruction- precepts conveying knowledge

righteousness- perfection or holiness (...The Lord our Righteousness Jer. 23:6)

That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

perfect- complete, moral excellence

thoroughly- fully, entirely

furnished- to supply with anything wanted or necessary, to equip, to supply, garnished

good- virtuous, not corrupted, pleasant, useful

works- actions which are just and in conformity to the moral law or divine precepts

2 Timothy 4:2-5

Preach the word;
preach- proclaim

be instant

instant- pressing, urgent, earnest, immediate, present(now), quick, making no delay

see how expanding the meaning of "instant" made it seem more serious!

in season, out of season;

(In)season- a fit and suitable time, a convenient time

(Out) season- not a fit or suitable time, not a convenient time

An entire sermon could be preached about proclaiming the gospel "out of season"!

reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.

reprove-to charge with fault, to refute, to disprove

rebuke-to check, to correct, to heal

exhort- to advise, warn, to caution with words intended to incite or encourage.

Just catch the fish. Let God do the cleaning!

longsuffering- patient

doctrine- learning knowledge, truths of the gospel

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine;

endure- to continue in the same state without perishing, to remain, to abide, to bear, to suffer without yielding to a force or pressure

sound- founded in the truth, valid, right, free from error

but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

fables- fiction intended to amuse, falsehood

But watch thou in all things,

watch- guard, to be aware and attentive, to be vigilant in preparation for an event or trial, the time of whose arrival is uncertain
endure afflictions,

endure- to continue in the same state without perishing, to remain, to abide, to bear, to suffer without yielding to a force or pressure

afflictions- grief, distress, sickness, losses, calamity, adversity, and persecution

do the work of an evangelist

work of an evangelist- instruct in the doctrines and percepts of the Gospel

make full proof of thy ministry.

full- having in you all that you can contain, abounding, complete, and mature

proof- evidence which convinces the mind of the certainty of truth or fact and produces belief, derived from personal knowledge or the testimony of others, firmness of mind, stability not to be shaken that resists the seduction and the assaults of temptation, strength in spirit

ministry- service to the Lord
